Beni has an exam tomorrow and we thought it would be a great time to make brownies during the course of which there were several interesting moments-

“Cough” (pronounced ‘cuff’)

“Pissa” (Pizza as a Mallu would say it)

“You have so much ‘cuff’, you should go to the Ee-yen-dee (ENT)”

“The Quoon (queen) has a cuff, let’s give her a blaanget (blanket) and a kuilt (quilt) and then take her to an Ee-yen-dee”

“Spaagatti” (Spaghetti)

“oh there’s a creamy inside” (Dont ask me.. Ask beni)

“Let’s mix the creamy with the brownie”

“CooCoombur” (Cucumber)

“Creamy cuff”

“My cuff tasted weird”

“How do I make my cuff taste creamy?”

“Skin treatment is rubbing creamy and brownie mix on skin”

“Otri beautifull”

The brownies were pretty good. A little too “creamy” maybe but still good.

-The weather has been so beautiful today. It was pleasantly warm in the morning and then it started to rain by the time I left placement.. and it hasnt stopped since. Reminds me so much of home.

-Beni is finally in Toronto! She’s moving in tomorrow morning… I can barely believe this is actually happening. Part of me feels like I am in some elaborate dream.

– In Beni’s honour, I changed the look of my room. I moved the furniture around.. Did some cleaning. Still havent gotten a chance to organise. ugh.. I like the way I have it arranged for now. Its cosy. Maybe I’ll put up pictures at a later date.

– After all the room decorating and cleaning, its past 1 am and as always I am sitting here awake, writing a blog post.

– Time to go watch Lost.

Rain rain rain rain. *sigh*

Yesterday, I…

– went in for my placement interview. I got there an hour early, tried my best to look professional (note to self- buy dress pants) and appear like I would be suitable for the placement. The interview took all of three minutes during which we discussed how exercices leave you sore but that’s how you know its working. I have the placement and I will start volunteering there as soon as I get my off-campus placement permit. The place seems nice and friendly, there are a few Indians there and Thea is doing her placement there as well! I think it’s going to be fun!

– found a beauty salon near my placement!! CHEAP! Well not compared to B’bay but compared to the rest of Toronto… so cheap!

– shopped. Don’t look at me like that. I havent shopped in a really long time. I bought myself a pair of cute spring shoes, a beautiful hat and a dress from Old navy. That dress was originally 34$ but it was on sale for 15$ and then the sales lady said that if I gave her my email I’d get a 30% discount. I got the dress for 11 bucks in the end!!! Love it!

– had authentic sushi for dinner. Raw salmon, white fish and some other fish. I thought I might not like it but it was really good. Thea’s going to take me to an All-you-can-eat-sushi place soon. I also had chicken Teriyaki and Shrimp Tempura.. Yummmmmy!

– was waiting in line at Starbucks in the food court of the mall when Thea suddenly said, “Oh my God!”Β  I turned around and there was a young-ish brown guy sitting with his family. His back was towards us and I saw the biggest butt crack I have ever seen! It almost looked like he was not wearing any pants… it was that low!Β  SO GROSS!! Ugh! Naturally, we started laughing and then people around us started looking around to see what we were laughing at. A bunch of school girls right next to us ran away. Soon, people were walking over just to take a look. One guy asked us what was going on and when we told him, he called his girlfriend over to see. LOL.

– was so sore the whole day..(I’m still in such pain). I had a crazy 15 minute Ab workout two days ago and I havent been able to walk since because my hips are so sore. It hurts to walk up stairs, hurts to walk down stairs.. it fricking hurt to get in and out of Thea’s car. I felt like an old woman with arthritis.. 😦

– went to a fundraising party. My friend is going to Cuba over the summer to do her placement and I wanted to help. Thea and I kept each other company but we had fun. Thea taught me a new card trick and we took pics of our pretty shoes. LOL.

– got lei-d at the party. Hawaiian theme. Some guy came dressed in a T-shirt and a grass skirt; I could even see his undies! Stayed away from him all night.

– took the subway home at midnight. I thought it would be scary but there were quite a few people and I made it home before 1 a.m

– discovered that Thea and I have so much fun when we’re together. I should bring her to India with me as a treat for you guys! πŸ™‚

My weekend

As the weekend draws closer to an end, I want to sit back and reflect. You may (or may not) know how utterly horrible my last weekend was and I was so scared of something similar happening again that I tried my best to be extra careful. Like all other weekends, I stayed at home for most of it, slept in really really late on Saturday and generally ate more than I should. I also had quite a few interesting phone conversations with my Dad ( this one was hilarious actually.. but to protect him, I will refrain from talking about it here), my Mom (my parents are so good at being funny, they don’t even try most of the time), Sheila, Oscar and of course Beni (another series of random hilarious conversation). So I’m thankful that this weekend was actually pretty nice.

Something special about this weekend …A new addition to my list of “Firsts”. Tonight, the temperature will drop to 0 degrees and later to -1. For most of you, this us not a big deal but for someone who spent the first few years of her life in a desert and the last couple of years in B’bay (which was worse than the desert, temperature-wise) this is huge. Even though, I will be indoors at the time with central heating and all windows closed, this is something special.

I spent tonight, curled up on the couch, nice hot cup of coffee in my hand, watching Desperate housewives and Ocean’s Eleven, thinking of J*^~ *sigh*, wondering if I’ll ever meet Mr. Ocean, generally caught in the feeling of warmth. The only thing missing was J~*^ himself. πŸ™‚

Ushering in November!

I woke up this morning to a very cheerful roommate. He knocked and very politely asked if I wanted to do some shopping with him. All I wanted to do was crawl back into bed so i mumbled something about 11 am being too early in the morning to wake up. Then I think he mentioned furniture for my room and socks. Socks are my latest fascination. I love socks!!! So that woke me up. In an hour, I was showered and ready to go. I went downstairs greeted by the delightful smell of breakfast (lunch?) and Mr. Sunshine looking like he won the lottery.

Now, I’ve only known him for 2 months… but he has never been this happy. Ever.

And then He looks at me and says those three little words–

“I’m in love”

My sometimes nice mostly mental roommate in love. Pretty amazing..

But I am so happy for him and I cant wait to meet her. If he’s happy that means he’ll be cheerful around the house and that way it will be harder for me to be sad and grouchy. πŸ™‚
I hope I don’t have to wait as long as him to meet my McDreamy.
(Yes, I still watch Grey’s Anatomy… Don’t judge me)

Happy November guys!! Start working on those New Year’s resolutions.. Just 2 more months to go.
I have one already– BUY MORE SOCKS!! πŸ˜€

need a list of titles to use

I have realized that if you are not disciplined to begin with… it gets harder as time goes by. This is true for everything.. Your methods of studying, how clean your room is, what time you wake up, the food you eat, money you spend, prayer time..Β  in short, everything.
I was never one for discipline. I have heard the word all through my life but I never paid much attention to it. It somehow had the words “old” and “boring” attached to it.
But now… I wish I had disciplined myself. Like if I was brought up by a military dad.. Lol…

Oh well. Just have to work on it like everyone else.
Another thing… Procrastination and a Disciplined lifestyle don’t go hand in hand.

I watched “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”. For some reason, it reminded me of Juno and I kept looking to my left expecting to see Paras there. I didnt look on my right coz’ I knew the seat was empty. But if I did I would expect to see Oscar. πŸ™‚

Today’s Halloween and I’m not celebrating (for whatever reasons) but I’m on candy duty. It breaks my heart to give away chocolate like that for free. I don’t think I’ll ever do it again!!

The weekend is here and I hope that means rest.

My Day out

I’m back from my day out. The only thing I remember at the end of all of it is why I hate street shopping so much. Its humid, there are annoying sales men, you have to bargain, you can’t try clothes on and it’s a long stretch of little “shops” so its obviously going to take forever to finish and come back to where you started. (That’s where McD’s is) And omg! Women take forever. Turns out, so do the men.
When I shop, I just go to the mall. Air-conditioned, big, no one’s pushing you around and you can’t get wet if it rains… Coz’ you’re INSIDE!!! Isn’t that just amazing?! Oooh, and malls have a food court!! and you don’t have to walk far to get to it! I love malls. Gimme a nice big wallet and a big mall and watch me go crazy!! πŸ˜€

But apart from all that.. I’m glad that we had clear skies. Even though it was hot, I appreciate that better than walking through muck and getting stuck in crowded trains coz’ the tracks are flooded.

I loved the way we ordered at McD’s today. We were about six of us (Gina and Vio had to go get a haircut) and after all the shopping and aimless walking we were really tired. So no one really wanted to go to wait in the line to order food. Oscar, the gentlemen as always, offered to do this for us. Everyone randomly yelled out their order and shoved money into his hands *talk about gratitude* and I somehow had this feeling that not everyone was going to get what they asked for. *no offense Osc* So.. I did the most logical thing I could think of. Got a piece of paper and wrote down our names and what we wanted.
Oscar and Eben walk up to the counter and give them the paper and the guy looks back at them a little confused. (I think he was new coz’ He called for his manager) and then they got our food ready according to the list. (Paras was first.. i don’t know why I remember that) He even read out the names on the list before handing over the food. πŸ™‚ That was funny.

I saw the prettiest little umbrella today. It was green with white dots and little frills. So so pretty. But a little expensive and since I already have Kerala’s no. 1 umbrella- Popy (%$@#^*%^&) I didn’tΒ  buy it… It was so pretty though. πŸ˜₯

Cab drivers are really mean!! They wouldn’t stop no matter what. I managed to get one cab by standing in the middle of the road and refusing to budge. Osc, Gina, Vio & Sherin got into that one. But Eb didn’t let me do the same thing again and so after waiting for a while we had to walk to the station. I was my usual cranky self. I hate humidity.

The train journey was fun and reminded me of the times we had coming back from college. I miss those days. Getting off the train was a little difficult.. Oscar had to accompany me to the door to make sure I got off ok at Andheri and I’m not still sure He made it back in. It was so horribly crowded.

So Oscar if you’re reading this and you’re alive, gimme a call!!

That was my day. Lots of laughs. Lots of Fun. Good food. Good friends. Little Green Umbrella still at the shop. Life goes on.

The one thing about the rains that I hate is that I’m not allowed to leave the house. Its horrible!! I have no friends that live near home. They’re far far away and my mom is terrified of letting me out for fear that I will dissolve in the rain. *mutters and mumbles* I know that it is reason to be worried coz’ of the floods a couple of years back. She’s convinced that its going to happen again this year.

So today we had made plans to go to college and go shopping afterwards. Oscar’s family friend will probably be joining college and she’s new to B’bay and she needed some help shopping for college. So Oscar’s mom asked me to be there and help with the shopping. Thank you GOD!!! Thankfully, Oscar’s mom doesn’t know that I’m not very good at street shopping. πŸ˜€ I just need a reason to get out of the house!!

I need a job.. That’s a reason to leave the house every day and you get paid to do it too!!

Last night, Gina, Eb and me were talking late into the night… and we came up with some really funny stuff.
For instance,
Gina: You two are so entertaining. This is like television for my ears.
Eb: I think you mean the radio.

There was some other stuff but in an effort to protect Oscar I will not mention it here. Oh we missed you lastΒ  night Osci..

I don’t recommend late night talking unless you have coffee connected directly to your veins. We had to finish around 2. I feel so old. Imagine sleeping at 2!!

I can’t believe I get to go to college today!!! and hang out with the craziest and sweetest people i know.
I’m so excited!!!

I think I’ll miss the madness the most. *sigh*

The Future?

So we were at the mall and Oscar thought that instead of wasting time we should distribute tracts. I for one had absolutely no faith or courage or anything but i did point out people to Oscar.Thats one thing I appreciate about the guy. He has no qualms about going up to someone and sharing the Gospel with them. Me.. well, totally different story. I could find out a million reasons why I shouldn’t and what the consequences will be etc etc.
Anyway, the funniest incident. we stop at this shop where I had left a book to be photocopied and Oscar gives the man behind the counter a tract. On the front is a picture of a hand saying “Do you know what your future is?” or something on those lines.. dont quite remember. So this guy seems really happy when we Oscar gives him the tract and he looks up at us and says “Aap padhte ho?” It took us a while before we realized that he was asking whether we were palm readers or fortune tellers. Lol!!
we told him that Jesus knew his future better than any palm reader or fortune cookie. Funny story though.

Pink and more

We finally pulled off OPS! After a month of planning this major pink attack for Oscar, we finally did it. and it was crazy fun! Oscar was there in his pink-ed room, pink balloons and pink flowers and pink satin ribbons tied to his guitars and a basket dressed in pink with all his gifts. And we also wrapped his favorite drink- Pepsi in Pink!!! we wanted to go all the way and get him a pink princess cake but then cake isn’t cake if it isn’t chocolate. Oscar definitely did not see it coming. He walked into his room and stood there trying to figure out what was different and we all came up behind him dressed in pink *well, most of us at least* and he was so shocked and we gave him his basket full of gifts which by the way was a Guitar Tuner.. for fine tuning and the metronome software on a cd. we also gave him some very special music from some of oscar’s favorite bands
For example- Britney- U drive me crazy, Spice Girls- If you wanna be my lover, Backstreet Boys and my favorite Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend. πŸ˜€
and get this.. Shannon knows the words to the Spice Girls song!!!! AAAHhahahahahAHAhahahahahhahahhahaha. Now we know what his favorite band is. Wait til the Worship team hears this about their Worship leader! πŸ˜€
Dinner was kebabs.. *mmmm* and Piss-pee. LOL! and the cake.. part of which went on to oscar’s face and in his nose too I think. Ooh and there were the cool candles that wouldn’t stop burning. I want that for my bday!

Oscar gave a little speech at the end of everything. He almost cried I think. and even though we were over two weeks late he was really happy. πŸ™‚

After that we went over to Dalreen’s place to see the baby… who is so so adorable. I’m completely in love with Judah. I love his tiny fingernails the best.

Got home really late but I had to check out this group on FB that Gina was talking about. Its called “I appreciate Christian pick-up Lines” and it has some of the funniest I’ve heard.

Here are some of my favorites-

– “you are so unblemished that i would sacrifice you.”

– “at points in my life i have been referred to as Samson”

– “i believe one of my ribs belongs to you.”

– “i can be your Boaz.”

– “did i just have mud rubbed in my eyes?”

– “now i know why Solomon had 700 wives… Because he never met you.”

– “your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Gilead”

“so, can i clothe you in righteousness?”

– “how many times do I have to walk around you to make you fall for me?”

“how would you like to join my Purpose Driven Life?”

– “let me remove my sandals before I come any closer..”

– “you can lie at my feet..”

– “i’m a proverbs 32 kind of guy and you’re a proverbs 31 kinda woman…”

– “not a big fan of your last name, but thats cool, i can change that.”

– “i sit with my mum at church”

– “i have a bible verse tattoo. its permanent. its also in ancient greek.”

“Me. You. Song of Songs: the remix.”

– “i would have asked you out to dinner, but i just put all my money in the offetory basket.”

– “you float my ark”

I love this the most-
“im interested in full time ministry, and not only that… i also play the guitar.”

oscar and his pink basket. Check out pink desktop behind him.

Aah!! Pink!!!!
